Vision Skylights Terms and Conditions

These terms cover how we survey, quote for and install or replace rooflights and skylights at your home, how payment works and your right to cancel.

Who these terms are for

These terms apply when Vision Skylights surveys, quotes for and installs or replaces a rooflight or skylight at your home. They sit alongside your written quote, and nothing in them takes away your statutory rights as a consumer.

We are a service-area business covering Cambridge and about 30 miles around. We have no public premises and publish no postal address, so the way to reach us about anything in these terms is by email at info@visionskylightscambridge.co.uk. Our contact page sets out the other ways to get in touch. Where these terms and your written quote differ, the quote wins, because it describes your particular job.

Surveys and the written light plan

Every job starts with a light survey at your home, and every quote we send is written and comes with a light plan.

At the survey we look at the roof, the slope and its orientation, the room below and how you use it. The light survey page explains the visit in more detail, and how we plan the light shows the thinking behind it. The light plan in your quote records the position, size, glass and shading we propose for each rooflight, with the reason for each choice. It is our professional recommendation based on what we could see and measure on the day. Where something hidden, such as the condition of a rafter or a flat roof deck, can only be confirmed once the roof is opened, the quote says so.

Quotes and what they include

A quote sets out the work, the products, the price and how long the quote stays open. It becomes a contract only when you accept it in writing, by email or by signing it.

  • The quote lists the units, glass specification, any blinds or controls, the finishing work inside and whether the work is notifiable to Building Control.
  • Where the work is notifiable, we handle the Building Control notification and install to current Building Regulations.
  • Anything not listed in the quote is not included. If you ask for extra work, we will confirm it and its price in writing before we do it.
  • If opening the roof reveals a problem that could not reasonably be seen at the survey, we will stop, explain it and agree any change with you in writing before carrying on.

For an idea of the factors that shape a price before you book, see our costs guide.

Deposits and payment

We only take a deposit where it has been agreed with you in writing, and the amount and what it covers will be set out in your quote.

Some rooflights, lanterns and conservation rooflights are made to order to your measurements, and a deposit may be asked for to place that order. The quote will show when the balance is due, which is normally on completion of the work. We will not ask for any payment that is not described in your written quote or a later written change you have agreed.

Your right to cancel

Because our contracts are usually agreed away from any business premises, you normally have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

The 14 days run from the day after you accept the quote. To cancel, tell us clearly by email before the period ends. You do not have to give a reason, and you can use the model cancellation form we send with your quote if you wish, though a plain email is enough.

SituationWhat happens
You cancel within 14 days and no work has startedWe refund any money paid within 14 days of your cancellation
You asked us in writing to start within the 14 daysYou can still cancel, but you pay a fair amount for work done up to that point
You cancel after 14 daysYou may have to pay for costs we have already incurred, such as made-to-order units

If we did not give you the cancellation information we should have, the law extends your cancellation period, and these terms follow the law on that.

On the day of installation

We agree a start date with you and keep you informed if weather or supply delays mean it has to move.

Rooflight work involves opening the roof, so we only start when the forecast allows the opening to be made weathertight the same day. We ask you to give clear access to the room below and the roof area, and to tell us about anything we should know, such as a loft used for storage or a pet that needs keeping away from the work. We protect floors and furnishings in the working area, make good the plaster and finishes listed in the quote, and take away our waste.

The guarantee

Our installation work carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee, which adds to your legal rights and does not replace them.

The guarantee covers the installation we carried out, whether that is a roof lantern, a flat roof rooflight, a roof window or a unit fitted during a replacement. Product faults are covered by the manufacturer's own warranty, and the guarantee does not extend to damage from other causes or to alterations made by others. The guarantee page sets out the full cover and how to make a claim.

Our liability to you

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.

We do not exclude or limit liability where the law does not allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. That Act gives you the right to have work that was not done with reasonable care and skill put right, or in some cases a price reduction. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for problems in parts of the building we did not work on.

Complaints and changes to these terms

If something has not gone as it should, email us first and we will work with you to put it right.

Our complaints procedure explains how we acknowledge and respond to a complaint and what you can do if we cannot agree. We may update these terms from time to time; the version that applies to your job is the one in place when you accepted your quote. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
